The Clarenville Area Recreation Association(CARA) Summer Program is back and promises to be better than ever. CARA is fully committed to making the program more enjoyable for our youth. Our goal is simply to provide a safe, structured youth program that your kids can enjoy during the summer months, all while being more active. 

CARA Summer Program

Details of the CARA Summer Program

  • This year’s summer program is focused on physical activity and the importance of a healthy active lifestyle
  •  Families can choose to register for the entire 6-week program, weekly or daily
  • Children will be categorized into one (1) of two (2) age groups.
    • Grades K to 2 
    • Grades 3 to 6 
  • Program will run for a duration of six (6) weeks. Beginning on July 9th and ending on August 17th. 
  • The Program will run 5 days a week from Monday to Friday. Parents can drop their kids off at the Gym entrance of Clarenville Middle School from 9:00am-12Noon and 1:00pm-4:00pm. No supervision will be provided during Lunch Break from 12Noon to 1:00pm. 
  • Most activities will be in the School/Events Centre general area. Children will be accompanied by staff if they need to walk to another facility or area.  Children are asked to dress appropriately for the scheduled activities. You can also bring along a snack and beverage, if you wish. 
  •  Each participant will receive a full 6-week schedule prior to the program beginning. This schedule will be followed closely by Camp Leaders to ensure the participants are being active. 
  • All electronic devices such as Cell Phones, iPads & Tablets are NOT permitted in the program. This includes participants and camp leaders. 
  • Activities include: Ultimate Frisbee, Music/Theatre, Fun Movement, Indoor Curling, Basketball, Run Throw Jump Wheel, Badminton, Soccer, Lacrosse, Arts and Crafts, Tchouckball, Table Tennis, Spike Ball, Ball Hockey, Flag Football, Softball, Volleyball, Outdoor Adventures and much more!

Details of Activities

Arts and Crafts:This activity will allow for participants to explore their artistic talents through the various activities planned by our summer staff. Participants should not wear new clothing since some of the crafts can get pretty messy! A painting shirt is a good idea to send along! All Art supplies needed will be provided.

Badminton:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers 

Ball Hockey: This activity will focus on game play and rules. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers. Players are also required to provide their own shin guards, helmet with cage, gloves and hockey stick. Players can also bring their own goalie equipment should they desire.

Volleyball:This activity will consist mainly of game play, with some focus on skill development. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers. Equipment will be provided.

Basketball:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers. All necessary materials for this activity will be provided! 

Fun Movement:This program is an introduction to programs focusing on body movement. These programs will include: zumba, yoga, and many more activities. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers.

Cooperative Games:

Music/Theatre:This program will focus on song related activities including moving to music and creating rhythm as well as drama. All necessary materials for this activity will be provided! 

Run, Throw, Jump, Wheel:This activity is an introduction to track and field events and will be held at the Clarenville Soccer Field. This activity will focus on various track and field events. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers. Please remember to pack sunscreen!

Outdoor Adventures:This activity will be held on various nature trails throughout Clarenville. Kids will have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors while learning techniques in Geocaching, Basic Survival skills and much more. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear including socks and sneakers/hiking shoes. Depending on the weather...a sweatshirt or light jacket would be a good idea! Please remember to bring along a backpack, a water bottle and sunscreen.

Tennis (3-6):Tennis will be held at the Legion Lane Tennis Courts. This activity will have a focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. Participants are not required to have rackets as they will be available, but feel free to bring your own should you desire! Please remember to pack sunscreen! Staff are also available to walk kids from the school area to the tennis courts! 

Ultimate Frisbee:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Flag Football:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants will learn the rules and regulations of flag football. As well participants should wear comfortable athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. 

Soccer:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. If your child has cleats and or shin guards, please feel free to bring them along but they are not required. 

Softball:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. If your child has a glove, please feel free to bring it along but it is not required. 

Lacrosse: This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Spike Ball:This activity is similar to volleyball, with the main difference being a trampoline style net that they must bounce a ball off of vs a net that the ball must pass over.  Participants will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Indoor Curling:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Tchouckball:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Cooperative Games: This activity will focus on group games with the aim of getting everyone to work together to complete a common goal. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

Table Tennis:This activity will focus on skill development as well as game play. Participants should wear comfortable, athletic wear, including socks and sneakers. All equipment needed will be provided.

CARA Summer Program Special Events

A Field Trip to St. John's will be taking place on August 8th. The bus will be leaving at 8:00am and arriving back at the school at 5:45pm. The cost is $25.00.
